Richard had a hard time standing up to their parents as a child, Jim often taking the stand, especially against their father. He often relied on his brother for protection. That being said, Richard also has a strong draw towards animals. He rescued a lot of injured animals or strays, keeping them hidden in a tool shed near their house until he could find a safe place where they could go.
After Gail, he was anxious about bringing animals home, but would do what he could for them. In his free time, Richard would volunteer in shelters when he was in university.
Despite the death of his father, he’s still afraid to bring home a pet. He would love a puppy.
